Ali Articles & Interviews, Charity, Once Upon A Time Comments Off on Ginnifer Goodwin Swishes Listerine to Donate $21,000 to Oral Health America

FitnessMagazine.com features Ginnifer on their Fit Stop today. There are some great interviews coming out since Ginnifer helped launched Listerine’s 21 Day Challenge, in this one she talks about developing good habits and which of her roles has been her favorite.

“Did you ever think that swishing just once would be worth $21,000?”

“No, absolutely not! My mother is proud!”

Our moms would be too, if one simple swish of Listerine could trigger a $21,000 donation to Oral Health America and kick off the 21-Day Challenge to Healthier Smiles. But we’re not Ginnifer Goodwin, as much as we like to dream about it.

We can still aspire to be like her though, right? We quickly jumped on board with the 21-Day Challenge once we realized how simple it was! Log on to Facebook, click “Get Started” under the 21-Day Challenge icon and you’re set to go! For every person who signs up, another donation is made to the Smiles Across America program, which will help provide oral health services to children in need. Now all you have to do is swish with Listerine twice a day, every day after brushing and flossing, for 21 days. Gum disease, find someone else to torment!

While chatting with Goodwin, we found out that brushing those pearly whites only kills 75 percent of the germs in your mouth, leaving the rest behind to wreak havoc all over your smile. Another scary fact: half of American adults have some form of gum disease and they don’t even know it. Yikes!

Keep reading to find out what else we learned from the Once Upon A Time actress, including which characters top her list of all-time favorite roles.

You have a gorgeous smile! For a lot of people, it’s difficult to get into a routine and remember to do all three: brushing, flossing and swishing. Do you have any tips to stick with it?

I think it’s just a matter of dedicating yourself to doing it. It takes 21 days to form a habit, hence the 21-day challenge. For the first several weeks, it feels like it’s a waste of a couple of extra seconds, but then you realize it’s only a couple of extra seconds and when you do it, you are really preventing all kinds of major, major damage down the road.

Were you always good about oral health growing up?

I wasn’t. And not only was I not, but my cousin is my dentist, so it wasn’t just about getting busted at the dentist’s office. It would go home with me.

Are you super aware of it now?

Yes! Especially after learning those statistics from the people at Listerine. And sometimes I feel like I kiss people for a living.

Ali Articles & Interviews, Once Upon A Time Comments Off on What Made Ginnifer Goodwin ‘Freak The Fudge Out?’

ET Online spoke with Ginny about the Listerine Challenge and about Snow White and her mother issues.

or Ginnifer Goodwin, joining the cast of Once Upon A Time has resulted in more happy endings than she could have dreamed of. Not only is the fantastic fantasy series one of ABC’s biggest hits, but the show’s popularity has allowed Goodwin to use her celebrity status to bring attention to worthy causes. Like she did on February 5 by helping Listerine kick off their 21 Day Challenge!

To help Americans develop better oral hygiene, and improve access to dental care for children in need, Listerine donated $21,000 after Goodwin’s “swish,” and will continue to donate every time someone signs up for the challenge on Facebook!

ETonline caught up with Goodwin to talk about this mighty cause and this even mightier season of Once Upon A Time (particularly what you can expect from the introduction of Snow White’s mother)!

ETonline: How’d you come to partner with Listerine?
Ginnifer Goodwin: I made some friends at Listerine and they taught me a little bit about oral care. That half of adults suffer from oral disease, that the number one chronic disease among children is oral disease, that we’re only taking care of 25% of our mouths when brushing alone and there are more germs in your mouth than there are people on the planet.

ETonline: Well that’s a terrifying statistic.
Goodwin: Oh yeah, I immediately had the heebie jeebies when they told me that. So then they offered to donate $21,000 to Oral Health America for my first swish of the Listerine 21 Day Challenge. The thinking is it takes 21 days to form a habit and implementing that into a morning and evening routine, one can assume it will become a lifetime commitment. It’s quick, easy, and inexpensive — plus you prevent so many problems. I really couldn’t turn down such a generous offer.

Ali Articles & Interviews, Charity, Once Upon A Time Comments Off on Ginnifer Goodwin Shares Why Her Pixie Cut is Here to Stay

MSN interviewed Ginnifer and talked to her about being involved in Listerine’s 21-Day Challenge, her most difficult stunt on Once Upon A Time, and her signature Pixie haircut.

Ginnifer Goodwin is the fairest of them all! Not only has she found her own real-life Prince Charming, she also cares about the well-being of others. She recently teamed up with Listerine to spread awareness about oral hygiene and helping those in need. Click through to read more about Ginny’s quest for healthier smiles, her red carpet secrets and her life as Snow White on “Once Upon a Time.”

Wonderwall: Can you tell us about the Listerine 21-day challenge that you kicked off?

Ginnifer Goodwin: Yes! I got involved because I made some friends at Listerine who told me some horrifying things, like they taught me that half of adults have oral disease and we don’t even know it. And the No. 1 chronic illness among children is oral disease. For all the brushing and flossing we do, it only actually cleans 25 percent of our mouths, and there are more germs in our mouths than there are people on the planet.

I was really blown away by Listerine’s generosity in donating the $21,000 to Oral Health America and I’ve also been blown about by their generosity in donating for every person who signs up on Facebook, which donates to Smiles Across America to help children in need.

What makes you smile?

Being healthy, being around my family, going on adventures …

You always look so great on the red carpet. What’s your secret?

It must be tailored to my body. I don’t think anything I’ve worn has not been tailored. Nothing, unless it’s made for you, is going to fit you. Nothing. Nothing you can buy off a rack can fit every person. So I tailor everything I wear.

Your pixie cut has become your trademark look; did you think that that would happen?

Oh no, not at all, I just don’t like my long hair. I had short hair when I was younger but it wasn’t quite as good of a cut as this one, but I did have very short hair, and I grew it out in order to have more of an aesthetic [identity] as an actress and then I found out that I could wear wigs.
And so I cut it back off.

Ali Articles & Interviews, Charity, Style Comments Off on Ginnifer Goodwin’s Style Motto: ‘I Believe in Falling on My Face & Getting Back Up Again’

Ginnifer speaks with People.com about her style and how to her clothes are a form of personal expression.

Ginnifer Goodwin loves to keep her red carpet looks interesting, and the actress couldn’t care less if she ends up on a ‘worst dressed’ list — all that matters to her is that she took a risk.

“I believe in falling on my face, getting back up and trying again,” Goodwin told PEOPLE at the Listerine 21 Day Challenge in N.Y.C. on Tuesday. “Clothes are a form of personal expression.”

And with that expression comes “countless” red carpet regrets — so many in fact that she couldn’t name just one. “Usually I work with stylists, and that’s usually a very good idea,” she said. “[Then] sometimes I’ll go, ‘I can do this myself!’ And I’ll wear something horrendous and be like, ‘Ah, what did I do?’”

Though we’re big fans of the star’s favored bold, colorful dresses, we might be seeing less of them in her red carpet future. “I know that I want to change [my style] up, but I don’t know what that means exactly yet,” she said. “I’m 34 — about to be 35 — and I feel my maturity in some ways, so it’s time that my wardrobe evolves [with me].”

While you wait to see where Goodwin takes her fashion next, you can join the star on the Listerine 21 Day Challenge and “swish” for a good cause: For every person who signs up, Listerine will donate to the Smiles Across America program, which provides oral health care to children in need.
